Use clear simple language not jargon
Take turns in holding the floor
Don’t interrupt or talk over the top
Nod your head from time to time to show that you
are listening – active listening
• Use peoples names when you are talking to them
• Be interested in what they have to say!
Starting conversations
• It displays confidence and use of initiative if
you start the conversation
• Begin with an impersonal question like the
weather or traffic etc.
• Ask them to elaborate
• Share information about yourself
• Find shared interests, connection
• Plan for future contact, take a business card add
on Facebook
