陶渊明
• 陶渊明 was a knowledgeable scholar, poet and writer in East Jin
Dynasty. He was a very rightous and honest person, and quitted
his job because he wouldn’t bribe or adulate senior officials. His
most famous saying is: “I don’t bend my waist for five Dou
(ancient weight unit in China) of rice (which refers to the
salary)”. He stayed poor for most time of his life to protect his
dignity. This kind of pride has huge influence on educated
people for thousands of years.
• His most famous essay was A Trip to the Source of Peach
Blossoms. Being tired of the dark reality and sophisticated
relationships among the officials, his products mainly described
his longing to a simple and pleasant life which didn’t have to be
wealthy.
