The Texas Revolution
Causes of the Texas
Revolution
Anglo-Americans who moved
to Texas were upset that they
were told to be Catholic,
official documents were in
Spanish, after 1830
immigration was banned and
so was Slavery.
President Santa Anna
Became Dictator of
Mexico and ruled without
any regard to laws or
peoples rights. He sent
troops and tax collectors
to Texas. This started the
Texas revolt.
Davy Crockett
A United States Senator and
Frontiersman, he went with a
group of Tennessee men to
the Alamo where he was
killed defending it.
The Battle of the Alamo
A group of 183 Texans under
William B. Travis and Jim
Bowie defended the Alamo
(an old church made into a
fort) against 6,000 Mexican
troops under General Santa
Anna. The siege lasted 13
days, then the Mexicans
rushed in and killed all the
defenders.
Battle of San Jacinto
A Texas army under Sam
Huston attacked Santa
Anna’s army , screaming
remember the Alamo and
captured him. Forcing him
to sign a treaty giving
Texas its independence.
Lone Star State
Texas became a country,
most Texans wanted to be
Annexed by the United
States. The fear was that
Mexico would take them
over. There were large tracks
of land in dispute with
Mexico.
