development-friendly integration of
developing countries into the world
economy. UNCTAD has progressively
evolved into an authoritative knowledgebased institution whose work aims to help
shape current policy debates and thinking
on development, with a particular focus on
ensuring that domestic policies and
international action are mutually
supportive in bringing about sustainable
development.

agency of the United Nations. It is
dedicated to developing a balanced and
accessible international intellectual
property (IP) system, which rewards
creativity, stimulates innovation and
contributes to economic development
while safeguarding the public interest.
WIPO was established by the WIPO
Convention in 1967 with a mandate
from its Member States to promote the
protection of IP throughout the world
through cooperation among states and
in collaboration with other international
organizations. Its headquarters are in
Geneva, Switzerland. The Director
General is Francis Gurry.

Deputy U.S. Trade Representative
and U.S. Permanent Representative
to the World Trade Organization
“India is an increasingly important trading partner for the United States. The total
value of trade in goods between our two countries has increased over threefold since
2001, with over half of that coming in the last five years despite the recent global
economic downturn. Both countries also continue to significantly expand investment
ties, with
Today United States Trade Representative Ron Kirk announced that the World Trade
Organization (WTO) Appellate Body found in favor of the United States in a dispute
brought by China challenging the imposition of additional duties on imports of
Chinese tires. A WTO panel had rejected all of China’s claims against the United States,
finding that the United States acted consistently with its WTO obligations in imposing
the additional duties. The Appellate Body, in turn, rejected all of China’s claims on
appeal”.
The International Labor Organization
• Seeks the promotion of
social justice and
internationally recognized
human and labor rights.
• Child labor
• Forced labor
• Domestic workers
• Green jobs
• Maritime labor
• Rural development
• Labor inspection
The International Labor Organization
• The ILO is the international
organization responsible for
drawing up and overseeing
international labor standards.
It is the only 'tripartite' United
Nations agency that brings
together representatives of
governments, employers and
workers to jointly shape
policies and programs
promoting Decent Work for
all. This unique arrangement
gives the ILO an edge in
incorporating 'real world'
knowledge about employment
and work.

ITC has been operated since 1968 under the
joint aegis of GATT/WTO and the UN, the latter
acting through the United Nations Conference
on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
The focal point in the UN system for technical
