Branches and Tactics
- The Air Force covers a lot of aerial
based combat as well as fighter pilots
who use specialized jets.
-The Air Force served as the prime
military strategy in World War II.
America did not have much difficulty
fighting in the eastern countries such
as: France, Germany, Italy, and so on
(U.S. Department of Defense, 2004).
∙ When the Japanese attacked Pearl
Harbor on December 7th, 1941, they
used several different military tactics.
One of which is called “bushido,” or
“kamikaze.” These are basically a
series of suicide bombings used by
the Japanese and translate to mean
“Divine Wind.” This series of suicide
bombs killed thousands and
temporarily eliminated a U.S.
battleship attack on Japan (2001).

Strategies and Battle Tactics

Before World War II began, the United
States used a tactic known as Plan
Orange. This Plan includes the
involvement of United States forces from
Hawaii and California, a gradual attack on
the Philippines to prevent a potential
Japanese takeover and threat, as well as a
blockade of the “home” islands for the
Japanese (Sutton 2008).
After the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor,
Plan Orange suddenly was worthless,
which allowed the United States to adopt
the “island hopping campaign.” This
adoption permitted U.S. soldiers to use
submarines in order to capture and
blockade the Japanese home islands from
the mainland (Sutton 2008). These
submarines facilitated the United States’
success by allowing its soldiers to travel
underwater, which contributed to the
surprise attack effect.

The United States also used three tactics using
newly developed vehicles which helped
contribute to the Japanese failure (Sutton
2008).
- The Higgins Boat and the Landing Vehicle
Tracker  allowed large numbers of
unharmed troops to make it onto land.
-Amphioxus Assault Vehicles got men to
the shore.
∙ Once the soldiers made it to the shore, they
were protected by small “escort carriers,” and
with air power from “fleet carriers” (Sutton
2008).
