The war against
terrorism
The war on terrorism
starts
• On September 11th 2001 the world
trade center buildings were attacked by
two jet airline planes that were hijacked
by al-Qaeda terrorists led by Osama bin
Laden.
• Shortly after that the Pentagon was hit
by a airplane also taken over by alQaeda terrorists killing 189 people.
• The total death toll on the of United
States citizens was 2,976 people
including 19 hijackers.
• Also over 6,000 injuries.
Entry Into War
• The first invasion was into Afghanistan on October 7th 2001
• The stated aim of the invasion was to find Osama bin Laden
and other high-ranking Al-Qaeda members and put them on
trial, to destroy the whole organization of Al-Qaeda.
• Then on March 20th, 2003 we invaded Iraq with thoughts
that Saddam Hussein and his Ba’th party had weapons of
mass destruction that he was going to use on the United
States.
• When the U.S troops arrived Iraq’s economy was totally
corrupt and there were mass amounts of looting happening
everywhere.
• The U.S troops let this looting happen and only protected oil
fields and now hundreds of thousands of Iraqi people are
dead and the country is in serious trouble.
Iraq's government
•
•
Iraq was under Baath Party rule from 1968 to 2003; in 1979 Saddam
Hussein took control and remained president until 2003 after which he
was unseated by a US invasion.
The Iraq-based Ba'ath Party had branches in various Arab countries,
such as Lebanon, Mauritania and Jordan. After the fall of the Saddam
government, some branches have distanced themselves from the
central party.
• The Ba'ath party inflicted terror and intimidation on the citizens of
Iraq. People were raped, murdered, tortured, imprisoned and
intimidated for holding beliefs that were inconsistent with the beliefs
of the party.
•
On January 30, 2005, Iraqis elected a 275-member transitional National
Assembly that replaced the US-installed Interim Government.
Iraq's Death Toll During The War
• 92,489 – 100,971 violent civilian deaths as
a result of the war.
Cost of the War
• Since the start of the war in Iraq the United
States has spent over $701 billion dollars.
• WOW
What surprised me the most about
the movie
• Since The United States invaded Iraq in march of 2003
there has been over 100,00 Iraqi deaths.
• The United States has had 4,279 deaths and over
30,000 wounded.
• With all the deaths we have still not fixed there corrupt
government system.
• Wit hall the Iraq terrorists attacking us the American
Government persuaded us not to shoot back at the Iraqis
to make sure we were not killing innocent people.
