Lymphatic/Immune System Objectives
Recall all of the structures of the
Lymphatic/Immune System
 Describe all of the functions of the
Lymphatic/Immune System
 Explain the process that your body goes
through to use the lymphatic/immune
system
 Describe how the lymphatic/immune
system changes as you age

Structures of the Immune System
Tonsils
 Lymph nodes
 Spleen
 Red Bone Marrow
 Thymus

Cells of the Immune System
Function of the Immune System

Fluid Balance
– Fluid Movement

Fat Absorption
– From the Digestive
Tract

Defense
– Filtering Pathogens
– Destroying Pathogens
Immunity
The ability to resist damage from
pathogens and internal threats,
such as cancer cells.
2 types of Immunity

Innate Immunity
– More generalized
– Can tell if bacteria or
virus
– Response is quick
– Said to be “immune”
– No signs or symptoms

Adaptive Immunity
– Very specific
– Which types of
bacteria or viruses
– Takes days to respond
– May feel signs and
symptoms of being
sick
– From this we develop
“immunological
memory”
*Even though they are 2 types they are fully intergraded in the body
Innate Immunity
Adaptive Immunity
And the Best Part?
