Lofsöngur , also known as "Ó Guð vors lands"
("O, God of Our Land"), is the national
anthem of Iceland. The lyrics are by Matthías
Jochumsson and the music by Sveinbjörn
Sveinbjörnsson. The anthem contains three
stanzas, but only the first one is commonly
sung.
The melody might be considered difficult to
sing, as it requires a vocal range of a minor
fourteenth. That the anthem is essentially
a hymn has been the subject of controversy in
recent times

Icelandic music has a very long tradition,
with some songs still sung today dating
from 14th century. Folk songs are often
about love, sailors, masculinity, hard
winters, as well as elves, trolls and other
mythological creatures, and tend to be
quite secular and often humorous
This is an example of Icelandic folk music
by Tyrkjaránid.

The Langspil is a traditional Icelandic drone
zither. Since old folk music has been gaining
more popularity in recent years, more and
more people are able to play this instrument.
And since it only has 1 melody string with 1 to 5
drone strings it is easy to learn to play it
compared with more complicated instruments.
The langspil can be played by plucking the
strings by hand, with a bow or by hammering

I don’t really like Icelandic music if I was
honest as it sounds sad and some of the
songs are very long.
