Kong Xiangdong’s file :
Birth: born in 1968 in Shanghai,
Awards: youngest winner of the
1986 Moscow International Piano
Competition and the 1987
Santander piano competition in
Spain. Won the 1988 Gina
Bachauer Award, and in 1992
took first prize and four special
awards at the Fifth Sydney
International Piano Competition.
In 1999, Kong and Oscar winning
composer Giorgio Moroder
performed their joint
composition the Tibet Dream
suite in Lhasa
Kong’s new
experiment in
Chinese folk music
was so important
that he even
changed his
appearance. He
arrived at his first
performance of
Chinese folk music
with all his hair
shaved off.
Kong explained
that he combined
Chinese folk music
with the piano
because he want to
try something new.
