Definition of Copyright
 The
legal right granted to an
author, a composer, a playwright, a
publisher, or a distributor to
exclusive publication, production,
sale, or distribution of a literary,
musical, dramatic, or artistic work.
Public Domain





Works published prior to January 1, 1923
Works Published between 1923 and 1978 for which
the copyright was not renewed or contain a valid
copyright notice.
Works authored by employees of the federal
government.
Works that the copyright owner has freely granted to
the public domain.
No works published after January 1, 1978 will pass
into the public domain until 2048 (95 years)

resources to use in the classroom.
Printed materials to be distributed for student
use must follow these rules:

Read copyright statement in the material which
permit you to make legal copies.
Get permission from the publisher in writing.
Never cut and past, removing copyright
information

Do not use website copyright interpretation that is
older than 12 months.
Every state does it that makes it OK! (Let’s jump
off a bridge)
Never copy textbooks themselves, because you
are short copies.

Video and Multimedia presentations have
become a common tool in today’s classroom.
Using Videos and Multimedia materials helps
to enhance education, but we need to follow
the copyright laws that apply:

If you have purchased or rented a video for use in
the classroom, it is relevant to your curriculum, is
accompanied by face to face instruction, and
during the regular instructional time.

The use of computers in the classroom has
grown rapidly.
Using educational software for student must
meet copyright guidelines:

Loading software only for the number of licenses
purchased.
Taking home software or bringing in software from
home is illegal.

create your own is illegal.
Student in programming classes must stay awy
from commercial games when creating their own
project, all music, graphic, sounds, motion and
coding is copyrighted.

Internet is an invaluable tool for teachers and
students alike.
It is currently legal to link materials to a
website without permission, but it is
recommended.
You can only download one copy of an
article.
Always follow the websites copyright policies

Music can only be recorded for the purposes
of evaluating a students performance.
All other recording or performance of
copyrighted musical arrangements must
have written permission.
