Reproduction
• Reproduction is the process of making new organisms from one or more
parent organism.
• There are two types of reproduction
• Asexual Reproduction
• Sexual Reproduction
Asexual
Sexual
Number of parent
organisms
1
2
Compared to parent
Identical
Combo of both parents
Complexity
Simple, usually singlecelled
Large, complex,
multicellular
Example
Bacteria
Mammals
Type of Asexual Reproduction
Description
Example
Binary Fission
Prokaryote cell divides into two
identical cells
Bacteria
Budding
Asexual Reproduction
New organism grows off parent
Hydra
The process of making a new
organism from a single parent organism.

• Mitosis- the process of a cell
dividing
intoparts
two identical
daughter
organisms
• Binary Fission- when a single celled organism divides into two new organisms
• Budding- process of a new organism growing off the parent organism
Spore formation
Seed like, parent organism releases
Dandelion
• Regeneration/Fragmentation- ability to repair and regrow severed body parts or severed body parts
spores which
grow into new organisms
develop and become independent
organisms
• Vegetative Propagation- stems grow underground and develop into new organisms
• Sporulation- when an organism releases spores which develop and become independent organisms
Vegetative Propagation
New organism grows from roots of
parent organism
Strawberry plant
