Anytime you ask the question “why” or “how”,
you are being a scientist.
WHAT IS BIOLOGY??
 Biology comes from the Greek word:
 bios, which means life
 Ology, which means study.
 A direct translation: biology is the study of life.

1” Binder with paper, pen, pencil and textbook is expected
to be at every class.

New material is presented orally & through notes
Students are encouraged to keep an accurate record of
class notes & participate orally in class
Notebooks will be checked regularly




Must wait 45 min. Do not ask before 9:45AM

 There are two systems to give you safety information.
In your home you have the Hazardous Household
Product Symbols (HHPS) on anything that might be
hazardous in some way.
 At work, at school, or in a science lab we have the
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System
(WHMIS).
