What are the characteristics of the

Islam
Islam Quick Facts
• Monotheistic- ONE GOD = Allah
• Qu’ran/Koran- sacred book of Islam
• Place of worship = the Mosque.
• Mosque = always pointed towards Mecca,
the birthplace of Muhammad.
• Clergy = Imam
• Patriarch = Abraham
Who was Muhammad?
• Messenger of Allah (Islamic God)
• lslam acknowledges that several prophets
preceded Muhammad.
• Prophets are those who could speak for
God.
• Jesus is one of many that could do this.
(Noah, Abraham, Moses, etc.)
• Muslims do not worship Jesus.
5 Pillars of Islam
• Admitting that there is only one God, Allah.
• Praying 5 times a day
• To give to those in need, charity
• Fasting (not eating) during certain times,
especially during Ramadan
• Making a pilgrimage to Mecca at least
once in a lifetime.
Judaism

• Monotheistic = ONE GOD= Yahweh
• Jewish Bible/ Torah/ 1st 5 books of the Old
Testament = holy book of Judaism
• Place of worship = synagogue
• Clergy= Rabbi
• Patriarch = Abraham
Who was Abraham?
• Abraham is considered the 1st Hebrew and
the father of the Jewish people
• As a reward for his act of faith in one God,
he was promised many offspring
(children).
Christianity
Christianity Quick Facts
• Monotheistic = ONE GOD
• Bible / New and Old Testament = sacred
book
• Place of worship = church, chapel, or
cathedral
• Clergy = priest, minister, pastor, bishop
• Patriarch = Abraham
Who was Jesus?
• Centered on the life and teachings of
Jesus, as presented in the New Testament
• The central tenet of Christianity is the
belief in Jesus as the Son of God and the
Messiah (Christ)
