Stage Management
Although Kevin has interest and experience in many disciplines, his
principal focus has been in the area of stage management.
At Indiana University Kevin served as Production Stage Manager for a
total of four main stage productions including; Hay Fever, The Winter’s
Tale, Hair, and Les Liaisons Dangeruses. Assistant Stage Manager for A
Little Night Music. This experience was reinforced with academic
coursework in both stage and production management. He was also
given the opportunity to stage manage the Opera and Dance
departments annual pre-college ballet as well as ASM on a production
of The Merry Widow giving him a basic understanding of Opera and
Dance conventions.
Kevin began his professional career at Theatre Aspen as a follow spot
operator, and quickly became involved with the management side of
the organization. ASM credits include; Little Shop of Horrors, Crimes of
the Heart, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, Theatre Aspen
Presents: Defying Gravity, Vices: A Love Story, & Becky’s New Car. Stage
management credits include; How I Became a Pirate, You’re a Good
Man Charlie Brown, Alice by Heart, and Little Women.
Recently Kevin had the pleasure of working for Curious Theatre
Company as ASM on their productions of Rancho Mirage, and Good
People.
As a Stage Manager Kevin’s experience is well rounded with a core
focus on musical theatre. He has experience working with large casts,
complex lighting and sound effects, automation, large scenery, and in
unconventional environments.
Kevin also has worked on numerous workshops and original
productions which left him with a great insight into the process of
developing new works. Recently he worked with the creative team
of Spring Awakening (Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater) on a workshop of
their new musical Alice by Heart.

Model of “The Neverland” which was held together
with magnets and rigged to break apart onstage
when the ship is destroyed in a storm.
Molly and Lord Aster’s Magical Amulets which were
constructed from 1” copper pipe fitted with frosted
lexan, and amber LED’s in order to glow. These were built
with internal batteries and momentary switches allowing
the cast members precise control.

These “Leaf Shields” for the mollusks were created by heating Fosshape 600 over a
wire mesh frame. The idea was to use a material with just the right amount of
rigidity to appear leaf like. The edges were then beveled and finished by hand
before being painted. Each shield has a bamboo handle making them very easy to
manipulate.

Props Design for Cabaret
For Cabaret the scenic designer, Paul Black,
requested that we replace the front row of seats
with Cabaret Tables to enhance the experience
for VIP patrons as well as draw the house into
the world of pre WWII Berlin nightlife. These
tables were constructed of 3/4 “ MDF which
was routed to 18” circles and sealed with
polyurethane. A hole was routed through the
table in order to allow the phone and lamp
cords to exit through the base. These tables
needed to be struck quickly as the theatre ran
the show in repertory. Both lamps and table
phones are practical.

These suspension microphones were
constructed from a mic clip, washcloth rings,
springs, and an old phone receiver.
Cabaret requires a fake brick to be thrown onstage. Due to the
intimate nature of the performance space we were unable to
replicate the “thump” with a sound effect, so a practical brick was
required. This prop was constructed of a 5” rubber dive brick that
was then cut down to size and wrapped in muslin. The brick was
then textured, painted, and sealed. The result was a large heavy
object that would behave like a brick onstage but did not cause
any damage to our show floor.
