Absent Work
• Absent work is due the day following the student’s return
to school.
• A formal homework request must be made through the
absent line or homework will not be sent to the office at
the end of the day.
• If a sibling is stopping by to pick up work, please notify me
ahead of time so I can prepare the assignments.
• If students are absent consecutive days please make
arrangements to pick up student work.
• Please return absent work form with all completed work.
• Only be absent if it is ABSOLUTELY necessary. The lessons
learned today are the foundation for what is learned the
next day.
Reading Research
• “among all the ways children spent their time,
reading books was the best predictor of several
measures of reading achievement”
• Students who read 35 minutes a day are exposed
to 2 million words a year and are likely to score in
the 90th percentile for reading.
• Students who do not read each day are exposed
to only 8,000 words a year and are likely to score
in the 10th percentile for reading.
Anderson, Wilson & Fielding, 1988
