Writing
 Sometimes authors use comparisons to describe
characters of events in writing. One type of comparison
is called a simile.
 When the wind blows through the Golden Gate, the
men cling to the girders like caterpillars on a branch.
 This simile uses a different event to describe the men’s
actions.
 The author does this to help the reader picture what
the men are doing.
 A simile uses the words like or as to compare one
object to another.
 The spring sky is as blue as a robin’s egg.
 Can you come up with a simile?
 Finish writing and revising your character sketch.
