Word Work
chest, dish, with, which and
patch
Look at these words. You can read these
words because you know that sometimes
two or more letters together stand for just
one sound. For example, the letters “ch” in
this first word stand for the single sound
/ch/. Now blend each word silently. When I
point at a word, read it aloud.
Word Work
Take out your white boards
and let’s sort some words.
Place the following words:
chick, rush, thin and when
at the top or your white
boards.
Word Work
Place these words in the
correct column according to
their consonant digraph
sounds: shell, bunch,
match, check, fish, bath,
whip, thick, scratch, then.
Word Work
When I read a sentence, I read
each word without stopping
between the words. If I come to a
word I don’t know, I blend it. Then
I read the sentence again. Listen
as I read the following sentence:
Whit let a bunch of fish swim in the
bathtub.
Word Work
Now it is your turn to read
a sentence!
