Strategies for
talking activities
Strategies – Talking 1
Think about this before you start:
 Read the instructions carefully so you don’t misunderstand what to do.
 If there is something you don’t understand you can ask the teacher or
your classmate, as long as you do it in English.
 Look at the pictures in order to get some clues about the theme and
what you can talk about.
Strategies – Talking 2
Think about this when you talk:
 Only use English when you talk. Don’t use any Swedish words.
 Be active in the conversation and talk as much as you can. However,
don’t forget to invite the others to talk as well.
 Don’t let the conversation “die”. Interact with each other by
commenting on what the others say and asking them many
questions.
 Show the others that you are interested in what they have to say.
Strategies – Talking 3
Think about this when you talk:
 Think about the grammar when you talk.
 Try to use as many different words as possible in order to vary the
way of expressing yourself.
 Think about your pronunciation.
 If you talk about what you think about something, don’t forget to
explain why.
Strategies – Talking 4
Think about this if you get stuck:
 If you don’t understand you can ask the others to:
- Say it again
- Not talk so fast
- Explain it in another way.
 Use a strategy if you don’t know a word. You can for example:
- Use body language and gestures
- Use sounds
- Use synonyms (words that mean the same thing)
- Try to explain what you mean in other words.
