Make a note of the characteristics
of the word
Rewrite the sentence
Provide an experience
Give examples of correct and
incorrect usage
Make a sentence with a similar
word

Make A Picture:




Draw a visual image that connects
the word with the meaning.
For example: “Carlin” means ‘old
woman’. You could draw a picture
of an old woman driving a car
(sound).
Or, just draw a picture of an older
woman.

Look at how the word is used in
the sentence, then examine
surrounding sentences.

Opposites

Definitions

Word Parts
ROOT-PREFIX-SUFFIX
Many words are made up of a root
(or base word) and a prefix. (Some
have a suffix).
For example, the root word port
means to carry.
Attach the prefix ex, (meaning out or out of), and
you have the word export.
Attach the suffix able, (meaning able to be), and
you have importable, exportable, and
transportable.
