HEALTHY SKIN, HAIR, AND NAILS
Epidermis- Outer, thinner layer of the skin that is composed of
living and dead cells.
Dermis- Is the thicker layer of the skin beneath the epidermis
that is made up of connective tissue and contains blood vessels
and nerves.
Melanin- A pigment that gives the skin, hair, and iris of the eyes
their color.
Sebaceous Glands- structures within the skin that produce an
oily secretion called sebum
KEEPING SKIN HEALTHY
Wash face 2 times a day or more
Take a bath or shower and remove stink
Don’t touch face with your hands
Choose personal skin care products that won’t irritate your skin
Follow a well balanced diet that is rich in vitamins and minerals

Green and yellow vegetables
UV PROTECTION
Wear sunscreen (Protect your skin)
Can lead to skin cancer
SPF 15 or higher
10am-4pm sun is strongest
Wear sunglasses
DON’T USE TANNING BEDS!!!!
BODY PIERCING AND TATTOOING
Permanent
Can transfer bacteria and transfer blood borne pathogens
Facial piercings can also damage teeth and cause other skin
problems

tooth
• Plaque- combination of bacteria and other
particles, such as small bits of food, which
adheres to the outside of the tooth

• Low sugar intake
• Brush and floss after every meal
• Dental check-ups every 6 months

that bends and focuses light before it enters

• Retina- the inner layer of the eye wall

• 20/20 vision is perfect
• Can read the top 8 lines from 20 feet away

KEEPING EYES HEALTHY
• Well balanced diet- vitamin A, carrots and
sweet potatoes
• Protect your eyes- sunglasses, safety glasses and
avoid direct sunlight or bright light
• Rest your eyes
• Regular eye exams- 1 per year or more
HEARING
• Protective gear- batting helmet, hats,
antibiotics and sound proof material
• Care- clean out ear wax; don’t push q-tip in
too far
• Tinnitus- condition in which a ringing,
buzzing, whistling, roaring hissing or other
sound is heard in the ear in absence of
external sound
