7th Grade Science
Introduction
• A planet is an object that is in orbit around
a star. There are nine planets in our solar
system that orbit the sun. We all know why
Earth is cool, but why are the other planets
cool, too? The class will be broken into
eight teams, with each team assigned a
planet. The goal of each team is to
advertise the features of their planet and
convince the judges that your planet is the
coolest.
Task
• To make a case for your planet, you must
first research all aspects of your planet.
After you have complied your research,
you will choose the most compelling
aspects of your planet that make it the
“best”. You will then make a poster to
show others your planet’s unique qualities.
Process
•
To complete your task you will complete
the following steps:
1. Complete the Planet Data Worksheet.
2. Complete the Source Worksheet to
document the resources you used.
3. Create your poster. Remember, you are
trying to persuade others that your planet
is the best in the solar system.
Resources
• Use these websites to
research your planet.
You must provide a
list of ALL resources
you used when you
turn in your project.
• Click on your planet
for your websites.
Mercury Venus
Mars
Jupiter
Saturn
Uranus
Neptune Pluto
Evaluation
• Your teacher will give you the Solar
System Project rubric.
Conclusion
• Congratulations on completing your work.
Hopefully, your planet will be voted best in
the solar system!
