Agenda
 Review HW
Review Quiz
Graphing Tangent and Cotangent Functions
Snowball
Correct U6H7
Reminders:
① Make corrections in a different colored pen.
② When making corrections do not just put the
solution correct your mistake.
③ If the homework is not here right now, you must
write me a note (1-2 sentences) on a half sheet of
binder paper why it is not here.
Review Quiz
① Sit next to your partner. I only corrected one quiz so
make sure you understand the corrections and your
mistakes.
② If you and your partner got below an 80% you can
retake the quiz INDIVIDUALLY
③ Common Mistakes:
a. #1: phase shift AND state the direction]
b. #2 Phase shift: pi/12 NOT pi/6
c. #3b: Sine graph is reflected and the period is pi
Learning Objectives
By the end of this period you will be able to:
 Graph transformations of the Sine, Cosine, Secant
Cosecant, Tangent and Cotangent Parent Functions.
6.7 Graphs of Other Trigonometric Functions
Now we will be investigating the graphs of tangent and
cotangent.
You are all familiar with the investigation worksheet; we did a
similar worksheet for sine and cosine.
I am going to give you 5 minutes to complete the investigation
worksheet with your graphing calculator. Split up the work
with your table-mates so it goes faster! EVERYONE needs to be
participating!
o What mode should your calculators be in?
Graphs of Other Trigonometric Functions
 Compare solutions on Tangent and Cotangent.
o On your paper, identify the following for tangent and
cotangent.
Period
Asymptotes
Let’s share what you feel are
the similarities and
differences between the two
functions.
Graphs of Other Trigonometric Functions
 Properties of Tangent and Cotangent.
Period: π
Maximum : None
Minimum: None
Amplitude : None. The number in front corresponds to a
vertical stretch or compress. However, you can just ignore
that number for now!
Graphs of Other Trigonometric Functions
What do you predict are the main pieces of tangent and
cotangent that will help you to graph?
o Asymptotes
o X-intercepts
o Period
Graphs of Other Trigonometric Functions
Under properties of y = tanx write down the following:
For the parent function y = tanx,
Period / Frequency: pb =
For the parent function y = cotx,
Period / Frequency: pb =
Because we have done a lot of transformations already, we are
going to keep the tangent and cotangent simple. We will only
do one/two transformation at a time for these graphs! You need
to graph TWO periods.
6.7 Graphing Other Trigonometric Functions
Let’s do Practice (2a and c) as a class, then you will do (2b
and d ) in your groups. Before we continue, let’s make the
guided notes easier for us 
6.7 Graphing Other Trigonometric Functions
Let’s do Practice (2a and c) as a class, then you will do (2b
and d ) in your groups.
6.7 Graphing Other Trigonometric Functions
Let’s do Practice (3a) as a class, then you will do (3b-d) in
your groups.
Whiteboard Practice
These would have been your homework problems but
because we are running out of time I want you to focus on
your study guide!
SNOWBALL
o Take out a half-sheet of binder paper and put your name
on it.
o Write an equation that includes at least 3
transformations.
o Crumple it up! Throw it ANYWHERE but at another
persons face (or behind furniture).
o Pick up a Snowball and identify the transformations and
write it on the snowball and put your name next to
your work. (This will be collected for points!)
