Transcript What is an Amphibian?

Animals can be classified
into six groups
Mammals
Anthropods
Fish
Six
Classes
of
Animals
Birds
Reptiles
Amphibians
What are Mammals?
They breathe through their lungs
Mammals are warm-blooded animals
All mammals are covered with hair
Most mammals give birth to their young alive
Female mammals produce milk to feed their
young
Interesting facts to note
Dolphy, why are we
mammals? We look
much more like fish.
It’s because our mothers
produce milk to feed us!
Other types of animals
do not do that.
Do you think a bat
is a mammal too?
Reptiles
What are Reptiles?
 Reptiles are cold-blooded animals
 They have dry and scaly skin
 All reptiles breathe through their lungs
 Reptiles, except snakes, have four legs
and a tail
Amphibians
What is an Amphibian?
Amphibians are cold-blooded animals
They have moist skin without any hair
or scales
Their young breathe through gills,
whereas the adults breathe through
lungs or skin
Amphibians can live both on land and
in water
Birds
What are Birds?
 Birds are the only warm-blooded animal with feathers
 Their feathers protect them and keep them warm
 The wing and tail feathers help them to fly
 Most birds have streamlined bodies and hollow bones
to help them fly
 Birds have a beak and two legs
 The beak helps them to get food
Some important facts to
remember
 Not all birds can fly.
 Eg. 1) The penguin has paddle-shaped wings
which serve as flippers for swimming.
 Eg. 2) The ostrich is the largest bird in the world
and it cannot fly. However, it can run very fast.
Fish
What is a Fish?
 All fish live in water
 Most fish breathe through their gills
 The gills are located under the gill cover
 Most fish have gills, fins and scales
 The fins help the fish to swim and
balance in water
 The scales protect the fish and enable it
to swim smoothly through the water
Anthropods
What is an Anthropod?
 An anthropod is an animal with more than four legs
 Anthropods are a special group of animal that do not
have a backbone
 Insects are categorized as anthropods
 Insects have three body parts, six legs, a pair of feelers
and may have at least one pair of wings
 A spider is not an insect because it has eight legs
The Six Classes of Animals are:
 Mammals
 Reptiles
 Amphibians
 Birds
 Fish
 Anthropods
