Animals can be divided into
two groups.
Can you guess the
groups?

Let’s learn about invertebrates!!

Can you sort them into groups?

INVERTEBRATE GROUPS
SPONGES
They have irregular bodies
They can not move.
They attach themselves to rocks.
They live in the water, specially in the sea.
They consist of cells.
CNIDARIANS
They have jelly-like bodies
They are marine animals
Some (coral) attach themselves to rocks
Others, such as medusas, can move about.
WORMS
They have long and soft bodies
Some are cylindrical, and others are flat.
They can be aquatic and terrestrial.
They have no legs.
ECHINODERMS
They are symmetrical ( 5 parts )
They are marine animals.
They are covered by a thin skin
They have arms or spines.
The central body contains their organs,
and their mouth for feeding.
MOLLUSCS
They have a soft body covered with a hard shell.
Some live on land: snail, slug
Others live in water:
oyster,mussel,clam,squid and octopus
Ocean molluscs move or swim by jet propulsion.
The exoskeleton covers the
body, legs and antennae.
They have antennae and
eyes.
ARTHROPODS
They have an external exoskeleton.
The exoskeleton is
made up of small
plates.
INSECTS
ARACHNIDS
CRUSTACEANS
MYRIAPODS
grasshopper
spider
lobster
centipedes
INSECTS
They are found in many different habitats
An insect’s body is divided into 3 parts:
head
thorax
Many insects have
wings
abdomen
ARACHNIDS
• They have 8 legs.
• The body is divided into 2 parts: the abdomen and the
cephalothorax.
• They use their legs for holding their pray and feeding.

CRUSTACEANS
•
•
•
•
They live in the ocean and other waters.
They have a hard shell that protects their body.
The body is divided into 2 parts: the head and the abdomen.
Many crustaceans also have claws that help with crawling and
eating.

MYRIAPODS
• They have long bodies with many legs.
• The head has 2 short antennae.
