Introduction
A honeybee is an insect with six legs , three parts to its
body and two feelers. Unlike most insects it has a sting
which it uses for defence.
You are going to learn how a bee changes from an egg to
adult. This is called the life cycle of a bee.
The life cycle
Stage 1-Eggs
• A queen lays soft white eggs in the comb.
The egg stage takes place during days 1 3.

Stage 2 -larva
• In three days the egg hatches
into a larva. Workers feed it bee
milk and bee bread. It spins a
cocoon around itself. The larva
stage takes place during days 4
through 9.

Stage 3 - pupa
• In the cocoon the larva turns
into a pupa it now has eyes and
wings and legs it looks more
like a bee. This stage is during
days 10 through 23.

Stage 4 – adult bee
• This is the final stage in a bees
complete metamorphosis it is
full grown the bee chews its
way out of the cell .It becomes
an adult on days 16 through 24.

• Cocoon – a case made of sticky
thread for protection.
• Comb – a sticky place where the
bee eggs are laid.
• Hatches - something emerges.
• Metamorphosis - something
changes.
