• First-year (entering 9th grade) are eligible academically.
Second semester first-year students must have passed
courses carrying at least 2.5 Carnegie units the previous
semester in order to participate.
• Second-year students must have accumulated five (5)
total Carnegie units in the first year, AND passed courses
carrying at least 2.5 Carnegie units in the previous
semester.
• Students may accumulate the required Carnegie units for
participation during the school year and eligibility will
be reinstated at the beginning of the next semester.
• Cobb Virtual Academy ($275- ½ unit,
$550- 1 unit)
• Georgia Virtual School ($250- ½ unit,
$500- 1 unit)
• Summer school (blended model) at
Wheeler High School from June 22- July
9th ($275- ½ unit, $550- 1 unit; sign ups
begin on May 1st in Counseling office)
• The HOPE GPA DOES NOT appear on the Kell transcript!!
• The HOPE GPA uses only CORE courses and is calculated by the GSFC:
• English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language
• Only AP courses receive .5 extra quality point up to a 4.0
• HOPE Scholarship
• pays ~ 80-85% tuition at public GA college
• 3.0 HOPE GPA, as calculated by GSFC
• Zell Miller Scholarship
• Pays 100% tuition at public GA college
• 3.7 HOPE GPA, as calculated by GSFC
• 1200 SAT (CR and Math only) or 26 ACT – at one sitting
• HOPE Grant
• Pays ~ 80-85% of tuition at a Technical College
• There is no GPA requirement
• Zell Miller Grant
• Covers 100% tuition for students enrolled in a technical certificate or
diploma program at an eligible public college.
• A minimum 3.5 cumulative postsecondary GPA, at the end of each term, is
required in order to maintain eligibility. The first term of enrollment will be
paid retroactively if the student has the required 3.5 cumulative
postsecondary GPA at the end of the term.
• Most Kell students will meet this requirement by taking:
• Level 2 and higher of World Languages
• Advanced Algebra, Pre-Calculus and higher
• Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy
• AP or dual enrollment courses in core subjects (including AP
Psychology and AP Music Theory)

• End of Course assessments (EOCs) are administered
in the following courses: 9th Literature, American
Literature, Biology, Physical Science, US History,
Economics, CCGPS Coordinate Algebra, and CCGPS
Analytic Geometry.
• Freshmen will have EOCs in 9th Literature, Biology (if
applicable), and CCGPS Coordinate Algebra.
• Students must pass all EOC courses in order to
graduate and participate in the graduation ceremony.
• Set realistic academic goals with
your student
• Attend all parent meetings at school
and stay connected
• Provide a quiet place to study and
set an expectation for study time
• Participation in HOMEWORK is key
• ATTENDANCE
• Check Synergy regularly

to reach a teacher is through email–

• If you request a meeting, briefly state your reason to
the teacher so he or she can prepare.
• If you need to meet with multiple teachers, contact the
counselor to assist you.
• Administrators can assist with personnel and
discipline issues.
