Water-Soluble Bis-Phosphines: Ligands containing two phosphorous atoms have long played an
important role in stereochemically controlled catalysis. Presently, there is a need to prepare “green”
water-soluble analogs of these systems and to synthesize metal complexes of them for catalytic work.
Therefore, we have developed the first bis-phosphines that utilize two PTA moieties, and have
recently studied their abilities to coordinate transition metals. Initial studies indicated that the P,P
systems effectively function as bridging ligands. This may
prove to be valuable as multinuclear metal complexes often
exhibit enhanced catalytic activity.
