Sleep.
You need to get around eight – nine hours
sleep a night in order to learn at your peak.
It will also help you avoid Delayed Sleep
Phase Disorder (which is when you are so
out of time with your sleep that it is
impossible to get to sleep at night,
impossible to wake up in the morning, and
you are more alert at night).
R.E.M.
Rapid eye movement
Sleep is important because the
encoding of information into
long term memory occurs while
you are asleep (during the REM
stages – the longest of which
occur between 4 and 8 am, on
average).
Brain
Fuel
Your brain needs fuel – you need glucose and
water to keep your brain fully active. This
means making sure that you are taking in the
right kinds of food – fruit is ideal for breakfast
on a learning day.
Keep Hydrated – you need about eight glasses
of water a day to maintain your fluids at the
optimum level.
Mirror Neurons
This is very obvious in babies, but is
also observable in many adult
situations as well – when learning a
new skill we observe someone else
doing it, internally rehearse, and then
copy. We do not have to spend too
long thinking about mapping the
actions onto our own bodies, because
our brains are provided with Mirror
Neurons – that automatically help us
copy actions that we see.
