An Introduction to L2 Space - An Engineering’s View of Mathematics
Mathematics is the highest recapitulation and abstract description of nature and social
phenomenon. It plays a basic role in science and engineering. However, it is hard learning
and understanding for the scientists and engineers. This talk provides an engineering’s view
of mathematics based on the experience of the speaker. It describes Hilbert space theory,
which is a difficult topic for most of scientists and engineers, by the engineering point of view.
As an example, the application of Hilbert space theory to pattern recognition is discussed in
this seminar. More specific, the basic principle of wavelet transform is introduced; some
applications of wavelet theory to pattern recognition and image processing are presented.
