TYPES OF CELLS
pp. 87-90
TWO TYPES OF CELLS
Prokaryotic
• Prokaryotic cells lack a nucleus
• Genetic information floats freely and is
called a nucleoid
• They have a cell wall
• Prokaryotes have a highly protective
covering called a capsule covering the
cell wall
• They might have cilia or flagella for
used for movement
Eukaryotic
• Eukaryotic cells are much larger
• These cells contain a membrane-bound
nucleus and organelles
What organelles are considered membrane
bound?

Animal Cell
Plant Cell
• Plant cells similar to animal cells since both
are eukaryotic
Plants also have:
• A cell wall
• Chloroplasts: organelles that undergo
photosynthesis
• Large vacuole: stores water
