Persuasive Action Request
Despite spending countless hours in the classroom and writing
stacks of meticulous research papers, many graduates who are
about to enter the real world are clueless when it comes to basic
personal finance, according to the experts. As program chair for the
Associated Student Organization at the University of Nevada, Las
Vegas, you suggest that the group invite financial celebrity Suze
Orman to be its keynote speaker at a special graduation
convocation. The ASO agreed and set aside $1,000 as an
honorarium. This in not very much to entice the author of The
Money Book for the Young, Fabulous & Broke, but Ms. Orman has
been heavily promoting her book in cross-country tours to college
campuses. The ASO group thinks it stands a fair chance of luring
this financial celebrity to campus

Dear Ms. Orman:
The excellent presentation you have recently made has gained our attention.
For most of us, being a college student is all about studying for exams and writing piles of research papers. At
the end, however, when all comes to pass, graduates who are about to enter the real world seem to be clueless
about basic personal finance. Your recent encouraging presentation to Bethel University graduates captured our
attention.
As a chair man of the Associated Student Organization at the University of Nevada, I would like to invite you to
be our guest speaker at special graduation convocation on May 26, 2011. You are highly recommended by
several of our members as the speaker to our graduates on this very important day.
We believed your advice and encouragement will help our graduates have a chance at a meaningful financial
achievement. We assure you that students, families, and friends, who will be attending the ceremony, are
enthusiastic to hear your presentation. Therefore, besides your travel expenses, we can offer you an
honorarium of $1,000. We will also set up a table, and you will have the opportunity to promote books for sale.
Can we depend on you? The keynote address is scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2011. If you could call
me at (651) 123-4567 by April 15, we can make arrangements.
Sincerely,
Israel Yemer
