MESA Overview
• DSCS
• MESA is a service that broadcasts multi-
– Faster than existing mobile-user satellite
downlinks
• Enables more mission options such as
distribution of imagery and audio
• Can accelerate existing BFT data
– Smaller user equipment
• Global, secure, addressable satellite devices
• Wearable, battery-operated devices
• Geo-referenced content distribution
– Fully leverages commercial industry
• On-orbit satellites and control infrastructure
• High-volume receiver technology
– Multiple Asynchronous Return Links available.
– Simple synergies with MSS, UFO, MUOS and
GBS, IBS and FLTBROADCAST

Each Satellite transmits six TDM Carriers, two in each of three earth coverage beams.
Each TDM carrier transports a baseband bit rate of 1536 kbits/sec.
The Baseband can be divided into up to 96 Broadcast Channels
The maximum Broadcast Channel bit Rate is 128 kbit/s
Each beam covers 14 million square kilometers of the earth’s surface.
Small personal radios receive the TDM carriers and select a desired Broadcast Channel
AfriStar and AsiaStar are now in orbit, Ameristar is yet to be launched.
