What is the mean by
cell

A cell is the basic structural and
functional unit of living organism
Robert hook gave the name
‘cells’ to this basic unit.

STRUCTURE OF A
CELL

The structure of a cell as revealed
by electron microscope is known as
ultra structure. Every cell consists of
three main parts namely the cell
membrane, cytoplasm and nucleus.
SHAPE AND SIZE
 Cell vary in shape and size. They may be
spherical in some bacteria, oval in yeast
elongated in nerve cells, spindle shaped in
euglena or irregular as in amoeba.
 Size of a cell varies from a few microns
to several millimeters.

PLANT CELL
Generally box like.
ANIMAL CELL
Generally spherical

AFTER LEARNING THE
SLIDES YOU WILL……
Recognise cell as the
structural and functional unit
of life.
 Draw the diagram of animal cell and plant
cell and label there parts.
