Cape Kaliakra is
situated 60 km.
Northeast of Varna.
The coast is steep
with vertical cliffs that
descend 70 m below
the sea. The name of
the site means
Beautiful cape.
• With the cape connect many legends. The most
famous story of 40 Bulgarian girls who tied their
hair together and jumped into the sea in order
not to fall into the hands of the Ottoman
oppressors.
• Today, the cape is a beautiful
natural reserve where
cormorants nest, seals and
dolphins swim in the sea and
many others.
•Coast at Cape Kaliakra cliffs type vertical cliffs
descend 70 meters down to the sea. The rocks are
hard Sarmatian limestone and conglomerates
cemented with clay rich in iron oxides which give a
characteristic reddish tinge.
• The bay formed by the cape is very good in a
storm refuge for ships passing here. His nose
has a museum, restaurant, lighthouse, marine
radar station, meteorological station and a
chapel.
