$400 Question from C1
An atom loses one electron.
Describe all the changes that happen to
the atom. What does not change?
Remember to include how the atom’s charge
And size are affected. Identify whether the
Element changes. Use the terms charge, size,
And element in your response.
$400 Answer from C1
What is: the atom becomes a positive ion
because it has more protons (which are
positively charged) than electrons.
It becomes smaller. It is still an atom of the
same element because the number of protons
doesn’t change?

$500 Question from C1
Label the parts of an atom . Then
explain its structure. Be sure to
identify the particles that make up the
nucleus.
$500 Answer from C1
Protons and neutrons make up the
nucleus. The nucleus is surrounded
by a cloud of electrons.

Final Jeopardy
Cesium(Cs) and Barium(Ba) are side by
side on the periodic table. Cesium is an
alkali metal. It easily loses an electron to
form a positive ion. From what you know
about trends on the table, compare and
contrast the characteristics of cesium and
barium. Look at the periodic table of the
elements that appeared earlier in this test if
you wish.
Final Jeopardy Answer
What is: Cesium is in group 1 and Barium
is in group 2. Both are in period 6. Barium
also loses two electrons to form positive
ions. It is slightly less reactive than cesium.
Their atomic numbers are 55(Cs) and 56(Ba).
Barium’s atomic size is smaller than cesium’s.
Barium is slightly more dense than Cesium?
