this information to their parents.

Our Initiatives: Rana Plaza
Immediate Short Term Efforts
•
First-response medical teams provided by HNPP (Health, Nutrition and
Population Programme) at the Rana Plaza site, who worked alongside
the Bangladesh Army’s medical teams
•
Primary psychosocial support to 473 survivors and families of the
missing and dead by trained staff and counsellors from BRAC, BRAC
University and Dhaka University at 6 locations.
•
BRAC Limb and Brace Centre provided more than 35 braces to
survivors with spinal injuries.
At the request of the government’s Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare, BRAC provided 11 mechanical upper and 1 lower prosthetic
limbs to 12 survivors. The clients are also receiving monthly follow up
and medical treatment, alongside a monthly fixed deposit scheme
worth BDT 1 lakh each.

Our Initiatives: Rana Plaza
Long-Term Efforts
•
Benetton Project: BRAC is giving livelihood support to 350 survivors
and families of victims with skills development training, provision of
seed capital and access to product markets.
• IED: Trauma care and mental health support for clients of all
implementing projects who show signs or symptoms of PTSD.
• BRAC UK:
- Livelihood support to 50 survivors and families (training + seed
capital);
- Family health insurance package through Ganashasthya Kendro;
- Financial support through a monthly reserve fund.
• BRAC USA: USD 1.25 million for BRAC “social safety net” to
rehabilitate RMG workers
• BRAC is also looking to support children affected by or orphaned
following the Rana Plaza building collapse.

OUR Initiatives: International SOP
• DECC is initiating a new project, whereby SOPs will be
introduced to the following countries through BRAC:
1. Uganda
2. Afghanistan
3. Pakistan
4. Tanzania
5. Liberia
6. South Sudan
7. Sierra Leone
• This will enhance BRAC’s emergency response system
throughout the world and enable it to serve victims and
humanitarian needs even better in the future
• These SOPs will provide context-based guidelines to
streamline and optimise disaster response
