Experiencing the science-policy interface
in BECC research
• IPCC EFDB EB LULUCF (Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change, Emission Factor DataBase, Editorial
Board, Land Use Land Use Change and Forestry sector)
• Åsa Kasimir, Department of Earth Sciences, University of
Gothenburg

The research
• Explaining greenhouse gas emission due to land use,
focusing drained peatland.
• Earlier and ongoing research contributes to development
of the IPCC emission factors. Feeding into inventories for
UNFCCC/Kyoto and mitigation actions of the society.

Why this data is of need?
• GHG inventories
• Policy formulation and implementation
• Understand linkage between management and
emissions
• Identify sectors with high emissions
24% of anthropogenic GHG emissions from AFOLU sector
• Identify emission and removal trends
1961to 2012 doubling of GHG from AFOLU and livestock
• To monitor progress towards policy goals
• To inform the public
Joint FAO-IPCC-IFAD expert meeting: Emerging
activities to combat climate change – use of FAO data and
IPCC GHG Inventory Guidelines for Agriculture and
