In southern Ethiopia, it hasn’t rained enough for three years. The
land has become dry and cracked. People can no longer grow
crops or give their animals enough to drink.

Maryam is eleven. She is from the Dorze tribe in Southern Ethiopia.
“We used to have many animals
on our farm. Now they have all
died because there was not
enough water for them. We try
to grow crops but the land is too
dry.”

But climate change doesn’t just effect Ethiopia.
Do you remember the floods in Wales and
Scotland in 2009?
They were caused by too much rain!
Supporting education in Ethiopia
Hundreds of people had to leave their homes when their towns
became flooded.

The flooding caused a lot of damage to people’s homes.
Carpets, furniture and electrical equipment were ruined.

What can we do?
Supporting education in Ethiopia
In Ethiopia, people are trying different solutions to fight climate
change.
These farmers are
planting trees. Trees
absorb greenhouse
gases and stop the
ground from drying
out.

Farmers are switching
to animals which can
live more easily in dry
conditions.
Camels and goats do not need as
much water as sheep and cows.

Getting electricity from solar power is a good solution in sunny
countries like Ethiopia! Solar power is clean and produces no
greenhouse gases.
