• Spain is a very warm country so climate change and lack of
water have had a huge effect on the desertification process.
• It threats a third of Spain’s area.
• Desertification is the
main cause of fires
in Spain, which
destroys plants and
trees every year.

The North and the mountain areas are wet but the rest of Spain is really
dry, that’s why temperatures are so high and desertification is an
important problem.

• When a lot of dangerous
gases are poured into the
atmosphere, the rain
becomes acid.
• It can damage forests,

DEFORESTATION AND
DESERTIFICATION
•Its warm and dry climate, the lack of water, the industrial and
economic growing and tourism are the causes of these problems.
•Every year forests disappear in Murcia because of the lack of water.
•Many trees are cut to build houses, factories and resorts.
•New economic activities are causing the end of rural works, which
took care of forest some years ago. This lack of care produce the
growing of the number of fires.

POLLUTION
•Pollution of the sea and seaboard: This was a
consequence of the mining and petrol industry.
• Atmospheric pollution: Now a days this is in a
normal range but 20 years ago Cartagena, our city,
was one of the most polluted cities in Spain together
with Bilbao because of petrol industry.
