• The mission of Interfaith
Power and Light is to deepen
the connection between
ecology and faith. Our
Interfaith Power and Light
campaign is mobilizing a
religious response to global
warming in congregations
through the promotion of
renewable energy, energy
efficiency, and conservation.
Climate Change calls us to ask
who is my neighbor?
• You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (Judaism
from Leviticus 19:18)
• This is the sum of duty: do not do to others what
would cause pain if done to you. (Hinduism from
Mahabharata 5:1517)
• Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would
find hurtful." (Buddhism from Udana-Varga 5:18)
Climate Change calls us to care for
the Creation?
While we may have different understandings
of God, we share one understanding that
God’s creation is a gift to be cherished and
defended. Every religion forbids theft. Let us
not steal from our children to support our
addiction to fossil fuels. Every religion forbids
idolatry. Let us not sacrifice creation on the
altar of consumption and profit.
Rev. Fred Small
“Peace and the survival of life on earth as
we know it are threatened by human
activities…. Destruction of nature and
nature resources results from ignorance,
greed and lack of respect for the earth's
living things."This lack of respect extends
even to Earth's human descendants, the
future generations who will inherit a vastly
degraded planet.”
- The Dalai Lama
The All-Merciful…created humans and … set
(the earth on) balance. Transgress not in the
balance, and weigh with justice, and skimp not
in the balance. And earth - He set it down for
all beings, therein fruits and palm trees with
sheaths, and grain in the blade, and fragrant
herbs.
- The Quaran 55: 1-12
"The destiny of humans cannot be
separated from the destiny of earth”
