Storyboarding
 What
is a storyboard
– Process of planning a video highlighting the
key points with text and visual
– helps get vision across to end user
– Called the “interim phase” between
imagination and production
Scriptwriting
 The
process of writing text for a video
narration or actors performing in front
of a camera
– includes comprehensive visual description,
notes about the tone of the presentation,
suggestions for types of music, and in some
cases notes about timings of particular
sequences
Video Performance Outcome
 Luminance
– a signal that represents the brightness of an image
– Luminance is measured on a Wave Form monitor
 Chrominance
– the signal that describes the color-difference
information
– Chrominance is measured on a Vectorscope

Production Process & Planning
 Pre-production
– What is the purpose of the video & target?
(audience your production is designed to reach)
– Project Information Gathering
– Outline and Script Review
– Write a script and storyboard it with script,
video and audio
– Shot List Preparation
– Cost development, Quotation or Pricing
– Production meetings
Production Process & Planning
 Production
– Video Shoot
 Equipment
(camera, tripod, cables, tapes, lighting,
mic’s, etc.)
– Narration Recording (voiceover)
Production Process & Planning
 Post-production
– Fixing errors
– Editing
– Mastering and Duplicating
Creating Text
 Graphics
generators create text in
order to display titles, locations, or
other information over the screen that
is being viewed by a process called
keying.
Creating Text
Titles
 character
generator (CG) - create text
on a television screen
– software based systems, (which use a
desktop computer as a platform),
– dedicated equipment (built to perform one
task only, in this case creating television
graphics

Characteristics of video for
multimedia and web-based
 How
does it look?
 How
does it send?
 How
long does it take to download?
Chromakeying
 An
electronic special effect technique
whereby a specific color (namely green or
blue) is used to identify a portion of the
image that is cut out and replaced by
another video source. Example: weather
man.
Elements of Video System
Television Standards
NTSC (National Television System Committee)
SECAM (Sequential Color And Memory)
PAL (Phase Alternating Line)
- number of horizontal lines in the picture (525 or 625 for
standard TV; 1,125 and 1,250 for HDTV)
- 30 or 25 frames per second
- electronic bandwidth of the signal
- whether an AM- or FM-type signal is used for transmitting
audio and video
Lighting
 light
level is measured in foot-candles
or lux.
A
foot-candle is a measure of light
intensity from a candle at a distance
of one foot
a
foot-candle is equal to about 10 lux.
