Production Concept/Style/USP
My interactive story will be set in a dark mysterious cave.
There will be spooky cave noises to add ambience and realism.
The aim is for the player to make it out alive. There will be very
little jump cares the main focus is to make the player think
something scary is going to pop out this effect will be done
with music. If the player makes a bad decision this will reflect
within the story and may end the game a show a screen
“saying you died”.
The characters name will be anonymous to the player. He has
woken up in a dark cave and forgotten who he is and why he is
there. There will be no clues as to what choices the players
should make and what they will change but there will be
various notes scattered about which the player can collect
which could help guide him towards the right direction.
Production Audience

My product will be suited to a PG
audience meaning parental
guidance.
This gives parent the choice whether
they want their child to view
something of this age rating.
Mild bad language can be allowed as
long as it is not over the top,
consistently used or threatening.
There can be some violence as long
as it is not intense or gory and
detailed.
There may be mild drug references
as long as they convey an anti drugs
message.
Any dangerous behavior that
children could potentially copy
themselves is not allowed.
My interactive story may feature mild violence as well as
jumpy moments and ambience. There will be no sex or drug
references however they will be mild bad language as it helps
express emotion.
Market research
As part of my research I conducted a survey. The point of this survey was to find
out a bit about my potential audience. I discovered from this that the majority of
people said that they like action games. For this reason I am going to include
action elements in my interactive story. I will do this by including an enemy in my
game which the player must kill with a knife which he can earlier obtain.
Although I am including some action in my game I will make sure that it is still
suitable for a PG audience. This will be done by not making this action scene too
graphic or gory. There may be blood to add a small sense of realism to the story,
however the graphics in my interactive story are unrealistic and cartoony.
A decision making game which I earlier researched is “The walking dead”. On my
opinion from playing the game first hand, it seemed to me that it would appeal
most to teenagers, however I looked on a website called the “Verge” and
discovered that the walking dead does not only appeal to teenagers, but it appeals
to a “Mass audience” (excluding young children of course).
Similarly to the walking dead my game could be suited to a “mass audience”,
however due to the dark theme and action inclusive gameplay it would appeal
most to a male audience on my opinion.
Production Equipment/Techniques
My story will mainly consist of images,
text and noises
•
•
•
The images will be in the background
to give the player a better idea of the
characters scenario and setting.
These will be drawn in Photoshop or
illustrator.
There will be text describing the
situation along with two or three
buttons with choices written on them
each choice my affect the ending of
the game. There will also be text
written on notes. The buttons and
text can be created with adobe flash
using action script.
I will create any music with a music
production software such as garage
band. This will add more depth to the
story. I will record any spoken
dialogue or sound FX with a
microphone.
Equipment needed
Adobe flash
graphics tablet,
illustrator/Photoshop
stationary (pens, pencils, paper
etc.)
garage band (music and effects)
microphone
IMac
camera (maybe).
Production Resources/Budget
Here is a list of all the costs of recourses needed to
make the interactive game.
•
Adobe flash- £349.95
•
Photoshop-105.95
•
Graphics tablet-£55.90
•
IMac-£1049.00
•
Microphone-£10-£40
•
Garage band-£4.99
•
Pens- 60p each
•
Pencils-40p each
•
Paper- £1.79.
•
Camera-£40.00
•
Total cost= 1832.58
One issue is the expense of the iMac. This can be
avoided by using a pc instead as I am not going to
be using any apple exclusive software during the
production other than garage band but there are
music production software packages available for
windows as well. This means that rather than £1049
I will be spending around £200-£300.
Production Collaboration
I will be doing all the drawing and action script elements myself however I many need
the help of someone else for voice acting. Also I had to collaborate with other
students in order to get a survey filled out which I will keep in mind when creating the
interactive story.
Production Constraints
• Time will be the main issue I will have to plan things ahead in order to
make the time limit fit in order to complete the production before the
deadline.
• It may take a lot of time and effort to draw the background in
illustrator/Photoshop may need to pay attention to detail.
• I will have to be careful not to use any copy write images or sounds.
