Anatomy
Anatomy:
•
Vertebral artery: supplies the neck & cerebellum.
•
Internal carotid artery: supplies the brain, nose, internal ear, & forehead.
•
External carotid artery: supplies the front & back of neck, face, meninges, middle ear,
thyroid & tongue.
•
Coronary arteries receive blood supply from the aorta.
•
The sciatic nerve supplies muscles of the calf, & back of thigh, skin & lower thigh & upper
surface of the foot.

Regulation of body temp is through:
–
Skin
– Sweat
–

All the excretory organs
Degrees of burns:
–
1st degree burns: only the epidermis is affected. It causes erythema & pain but no
blistering. It is treated immediately with cold water.
–
Second degree burns: This affects the epidermis & a portion of the dermis. It results in
blisters & pain but skin will regenerate.
–
Third degree burns: The burn penetrates through the entire skin & damage may be
permanent. It results in a leathery appearance of the skin but produces no blisters. Skin
grafting is necessary.
–
Fourth degree burns: Both the skin & the underlying tissue are affected. It results in
blackened skin & risk of deep infection.
