PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: GET MOVING!
Being active is a great habit to form for lifelong health!
Regular physical activity has many benefits including
weight control and disease prevention. So, get up and get
moving!
BENEFITS OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:
Weight Management
Reduces risk of heart disease
Reduces risk of Type II diabetes
 Strengthens muscles and bones
Improves mood and boosts energy
Improves brain function

HOW MUCH PHYSICAL ACTIVITY SHOULD I BE GETTING?
Children (6-17 years)
Adults
60 minutes of aerobic activity/day
(Ex. Brisk walking, basketball, soccer,
swimming, running)
150 minutes of moderate aerobic
activity/week (Brisk walking, water aerobics)
OR
75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity/week
(Ex. Running, swimming laps, basketball)
Muscle/Bone strengthening activities 3 or
more days/week
(Ex. Jump rope, gymnastics, push ups, sit ups)
Muscle/Bone strengthening activities on 2 or
more days/week
(Ex. Lifting weights, push ups, sit ups heavy
gardening)

MAKE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY FUN: GET EVERYONE INVOLVED!
•Family Field Day: play games such as tug of war,
water balloon toss, and hula-hoop
•Give children toys that encourage activity (hula hoops, kites, jump ropes)
•Train as a family for a charity walk/run
•Take a family walk after dinner
•Put on some music and dance
•Head to the park or go on a nature hike
•Get everyone involved in household chores
