seen as ornate,
extravagant.
– Lots of columns, domes,
vibrant paints, etc. etc.
• Classical Period is
simpler and elegant.
– Columns still prevalent,
but the architecture is
simpler.

• Music
– Baroque style of Bach and
Handel is loud and grand.
– The symphony of Haydn
and Mozart are more
elegant, not as loud.

– Novels become popular,
telling stories in the lay
language of the period.

• Some monarchs embraced
the enlightenment ideas.

• Ultimate goal was to make
their rule more effective,
and make country stronger.
