Rationale

An expanded network of disease
surveillance and early warning systems
combined with trained rapid response
teams will strengthen the capacity of the
Ministry to effectively detect and control
the spread of pandemic and epidemic
infectious disease outbreaks in Kenya.

Overall Goal

To reduce morbidity and mortality due
to pandemic and epidemic infectious
diseases in Kenya.

Objective

To strengthen the capacity of MOPHS at
all levels of the health system (province,
district, health facility) to monitor, detect,
rapidly respond to, and control disease
pandemics and epidemics in a timely
manner in Kenya.



MOPHS Dept of Disease Prevention and
Control, Division of Disease Surveillance
and Response.
Provincial and district health teams in 18
influenza high and medium risk districts,
and port of entry team.

Components (1)
1 Short courses in Germany on Infectious
Disease Epidemiology and Spacial
Epidemiology in Megacities: four MOPHS
officers (Sep-10)
2 Training MOPHS provincial, district and
health facility teams, on Integrated Disease
Surveillance and Response (IDSR).

3 Training District and Ports of Entry Rapid
Response Teams (RRTs).
4 Support to DDPC and DDSR for monitoring,
coordination, and support supervision.
5 Formative research.

Plan.
