Explain the different types of hearts. Explain the
seriousness of Lying on the prophet(sa), The sin
of adultery and its different types and
punishments, the sin of testifying false
testimony. Also explain the meaning behind the
hadith of the man and woman who committed
adultery and asked for punishment.
Importance of the Heart
Narrated by Ibn Bashir: I heard Allah's Apostle saying,
'Both legal and illegal things are evident but in between them
there are doubtful (suspicious) things and most of the people
have no knowledge about them. So whoever saves himself from
these suspicious things saves his religion and his honor. And
whoever indulges in these suspicious things is like a shepherd
who grazes (his animals) near the pastures of someone else
and at any moment he is liable to get in it. (O people!) Beware!
Every king has a pasture
and the pasture of Allah
on the earth is His illegal
(forbidden) things.
Beware! There is a piece
of flesh in the body if it
becomes good
(reformed) the whole
body becomes good
but if it gets spoilt the
whole body gets
spoilt and that is the
heart. Bukhari
Importance of the Heart

On the authority of Abu Huraira with some
addition :"Verily Allah does not look to your
bodies nor to your faces but He looks to your
hearts," and he pointed towards the heart
with his fingers. Muslim
Types of Heart
Imam Ahmad recorded Abu Sa’id saying that the Messenger SAW said
“The hearts are four types: polished as shiny as the radiating
lamp, a sealed heart with a knot tied around its seal, a heart
that is turned upside down and a wrapped heart. As for the
polished heart, it is the heart of the believer and the lamp is
the light of faith. The sealed heart is the heart of the
disbeliever. The heart that is turned upside down is the heart
of the pure hypocrite, because he had knowledge but denied
it. As for the wrapped heart, it is a heart that contains belief
and hypocrisy. The example of faith in this heart, is the
example of the herb that is sustained by pure water. The
example of hypocrisy in it, is the example of an ulcer that
thrives on puss and blood. Whichever of the two substances
has the upper hand, it will have the upper hand of that heart."
This Hadeeth has a Jayid Hasan (good) chain of narration
according to Ahmad 3:17.
(And given the OK, by Sis Laila Nasheeba!!)
Healthy Heart

“The believers are only those who, when
Allah is mentioned, feel a fear in their
hearts and when His Verses (this Quran)
are recited unto them, they (i.e. the Verses)
increase their Faith; and they put their trust
in their Lord (Alone);” (Chapter 8, Verse 2)

“Whose hearts are filled with fear when
Allah is mentioned; who patiently bear
whatever may befall them (of calamities);
….“ (Chapter 22, Verse 35)
Healthy Heart

“ And those who give that (their charity) which they
give (and also do other good deeds) with their hearts
full of fear (whether their alms and charities, etc., have
been accepted or not), because they are sure to return
to their Lord (for reckoning).” (Chapter 23, Verse 60)

“He it is Who sent down As-Sakinah (calmness and
tranquillity) into the hearts of the believers, that they
may grow more in Faith along with their (present) Faith.
….” Chapter 48, Verse 4
Healthy Heart

“And that those who have been given
knowledge may know that it (this
Quran) is the truth from your Lord, and
that they may believe therein, and their
hearts may submit to it with humility.
And verily, Allah is the Guide of those
who believe, to the Straight
Path.” (Chapter 22, Verse 54)
Dead Heart - Sealed


“Allah has set a seal on their hearts and on
their hearings, (i.e. they are closed from
accepting Allahs Guidance), and on their
eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be a
great torment.” (Chapter 2, Verse 7)
“Or the state of the disbeliever is like the
darkness in a vast deep sea” (Chapter 24,
Verse 40)
Dead Heart – Upside Down

“ And We shall turn their hearts and their eyes
away (from guidance), as they refused to believe
therein for the first time, and We shall leave
them in their trespass to wander
blindly.” (Chapter 6, Verse 110)

“The Hypocrites - they think they are overreaching Allah, but He will over- reach them:
When they stand up to prayer, they stand
without earnestness, to be seen of men, but little
do they hold Allah in remembrance;” (Chapter 4,
Verse 142)
Dead Heart – Upside Down

“The Hypocrites, men and women, (have an
understanding) with each other: They enjoin evil,
and forbid what is just, and are close with their
hands. They have forgotten Allah. so He hath
forgotten them. Verily the Hypocrites are rebellious
and perverse.” (Chapter 9, Verse 67)

And they are insulting towards the beloved Prophet
of Allah, as Allah T’ala explains in (Chapter 33, Verse
12) ‘And behold! The Hypocrites and those in whose
hearts is a disease (even) say: "(Allah) and His
Messenger promised us nothing but delusion!"
Sick Heart

“…….As for the wrapped heart, it is a heart
that contains belief and hypocrisy. The
example of faith in this heart, is the
example of the herb that is sustained by
pure water. The example of hypocrisy in it,
is the example of an ulcer that thrives on
puss and blood. Whichever of the two
substances has the upper hand, it will
have the upper hand of that heart.”
Sick Heart

As is described in this exerpt from a narration on the
authority of Hudhaifa:” …. I heard the Messenger of
Allah (may peace be, upon him ) observing: ……and
the other black and dust-coloured like a vessel
which is upset, not recognizing what is good or
rejecting what is abominable, but being impregnated
with passion. ….”
Muslim

Al-Agharr al-Muzani, who was one amongst the
Companions (of the Holy Prophet) reported that
Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said:
There is (at times) some sort of shade upon my
heart, and I seek forgiveness from Allah a hundred
times a day. Muslim
False Testimony

Narrated Abu Bakra: Allah's Apostle said thrice,
"Shall I not inform you of the biggest of the great
sins?" We said, "Yes, O Allah's Apostle" He said,
"To join partners in worship with Allah: to be
undutiful to one's parents." The Prophet sat up
after he had been reclining and added, "And I
warn you against giving forged statement and a
false witness; I warn you against giving a forged
statement and a false witness." The Prophet kept
on saying that warning till we thought that he
would not stop. ” (Bukhari)
False Testimony


“Malik related to me that he heard that Abdullah
ibn Masud used to say, "The slave continues to lie
and a black spot grows in his heart until all his heart
becomes black. Then he is written, in Allah's sight,
among the liars."” Muwatta
“He sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam also said: “He who
(took) appropriated the right of a Muslim by (taking
a false) oath, Allaah will make the Hellfire upon him
and will declare Paradise forbidden for him.” So a
person asked him: "Even if it’s for something tiny?"
which the prophet (PBUH) said back: "(Yes) even if
it’s (as tiny) as a twig of a tree.”” (Ahmad &
Muslim) (Taken from the book in class).
Lying on the Prophet


“So take what the Messenger assigns you,
and deny yourselves that which he
withholds from you…” (Ch59:V7)
The Prophet (PBUH) said: "Whoever
knowingly lie upon me, then let him
occupy his seat in the Fire".” (Bukhari,
Muslim & Others)

reward for him for this (act of goodness) and

subsequently…” (Muslim)
