What, Why, and How
To receive credit please print and complete the last slide and submit it to your coordinator.
WHAT??
• A to-do list is a simple list of tasks that allows
you to visually see what you need to accomplish
• It’s all in ONE place for easy reference!
• Grows and shortens as you work through items
• Posted in a common place so you don’t FORGET
your tasks
• ORGANIZATIONAL scheduling tool
• Can be a “not-to-do” list
WHY??
• Reduce stress by prioritizing tasks
• Remind yourself of what’s important and
what needs to get done
• It can be fun!
– Playing with the list can help you think outside of
the box for solutions
HOW??
• Write down what you need to for the
upcoming week
• Focus on why each task is important to you
• Think about what rewards you expect after
completing each task
• List when each task needs to be completed
• Cross off items and celebrate their
completion!
Different Types of To-do Lists
• Grocery List
– After you have prioritized all of your tasks, write
them all on one sheet of paper (numbered from
most important to least important)
• Post-it Notes
– Write your tasks on different colored post-it
notes with each color corresponding to the
importance of the task
Different Types of To-do Lists (cont.)
• Electronic To-do List
– Certain cell phones, mp3 players, email address
sites (like Yahoo or Comcast), and computers
have electronic to-do lists that one can create
– When you’re checking a text, listening to music,
logging onto your computer, or reading your
email, you can glance at your to-do list and make
sure you are on point
Different Types of To-do Lists (cont.)
• Day Planner/Personal Organizer
– Buy a day planner to keep track of all the tasks
you must accomplish week to week
• Calendar
– In an electronic or paper calendar, list all the
tasks you must complete under the day which
they must be completed by
– Make sure you make this your “To-Do List
Calendar” and keep a separate calendar for
events, birthdays, etc.
Different Types of To-do Lists (cont.)
• Notebook
– Keep a notebook of what you have to do for the
next week or month (one page for each day)
– Review the page that corresponds to the current
day when you wake up every morning
CREATE YOUR OWN!
• Now that you know WHAT a to-do list is,
WHY you should spend some of your
valuable time making one, and HOW you go
about writing one, it’s time for you to make
your OWN!!
• PLEASE FILL OUT THE CORRESPONDING
