Objectives:
(1)Students will use inverse operations to solve two-step
equations.
Agenda
1.) Lesson 6 – Isolating the Variable
2.) Assignment - Worksheet
Multiple Step Equations #6
3 types:
Type 1:
-5 = a – 2d
Type 2:

Inverse Operations
These are operations that undo
each other.
For Example:
5 + 12 = 17
-12 = -12
5=5
I get back to 5
by subtracting
what I added.
Type 1:
You need to get
-5 = a – 2d
- a -a
-5 - a = -2d

d all by itself!
Get rid of the adding or
subtracting FIRST!
• Do the Opposite!
Now get rid of the
multiplication or division!
• Do the Opposite!
You Try:
You need to get
4 = x – 7y
- x -x
4 - x = -7y
