One Variable Equations
TSWBAT solve one variable equations
using laws of addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division.
One variable Equations
There are 4 steps –
 Step 1 Simplify by Distribution or
by Combining Like Terms.
 Step 2 Add or Subtract the same value to
both sides to isolate the variable.
 Step 3 Multiply or Divide the same value
to both sides to isolate the variable.
 Step 4 Check your answer.

Example
Tickets to the Civic Center Auditorium for
a rock concert were $19 for seats near the
front and $14 for rear seats. There were
525 more rear seats sold than front seats,
and sales for all tickets totaled $31,770.
How many of each kind of ticket were
sold?
 Draw a picture 
Example
Define your Variable x=number of front
seat tickets sold
 Label your drawing.
 Re-Read the Problem
 Write Equation – Price X Number = Sales
Front Sales + Rear Sales = Total Sales

Example

Solve for x.

Check your answer.
